SAFETY PHILOSOPHY:

At Air Evac Lifeteam, we consider the safety of our patients and our crewmembers to be paramount. We have taken a leadership position in the air medical emergency services community by implementing numerous safety initiatives. The following provides a listing of a few of our key safety initiatives:

  • First air medical operator to invest in and use a dedicated flight simulator as part of its routine pilot training program
  • First operator of its size to make a company wide commitment to helmet usage for all crewmembers
  • Risk Matrix System to identify risk factors before accepting a mission;
  • Internal Compliance Audits are a key element of Air Evac Lifeteam’s comprehensive compliance program designed to ensure conformity with all applicable federal regulations and pertinent safety initiatives;
  • Full-time Safety Officer whose sole responsibility is to ensure that all personnel are well-trained and highly conscious of safe operating procedures
  • Four pilots (all with more than 5 years of EMS experience) are utilized as flight data analysts in AEL's Operations Center to provide timely, accurate information to aid pilots in making real-time decisions regarding potential aircraft, weather and regulatory issues
  • Research and Development is an ongoing commitment at Air Evac Lifeteam. Every year considerable financial commitments are made to investigate programs, processes and technologies that put our company on the leading edge of safety innovation in the industry.

Through these and many other initiatives, Air Evac Lifeteam has realized the following safety accomplishments:

  • Gold-rated by the Aviation Research Group (ARG/US), an independent aviation research group that thoroughly reviewed AEL’s operations and safety record;
  • Awarded the Operator's Safety Award in 2007 by Helicopter Association International, based on AEL's relative safety record within the air medical industry
  • Since 1990 and flying over 135,000 patient missions, AEL has experienced neither a weather-related accident nor an accident related to its maintenance program;
  • Received the FAA's Diamond Maintenance Award in 2007 for excellence in training and maintenance
  • Successfully accomplished company-initiated, third-party safety audits in 2005 and 2007 by well regarded industry experts

At Air Evac Lifeteam, we take safety seriously. Our mission to respond to the emergency air medical needs of rural Americans can only be effectively realized by operating with the highest level of safety for our patients and crewmembers. Our commitment to continuous improvement of our people, processes and technologies demonstrates our commitment to safety and the lengths at which we go to ensure safe operations.

We welcome the opportunity to safely serve our patients for years to come.
