MECHANICS:
At Air Evac Lifeteam, maintenance of the fleet of air ambulances is a top
priority. Having safe, reliable aircraft in place is the first step toward
ensuring patients receive timely, quality care.
Air Evac Lifeteam employs a professionally-trained staff of more than 74 field
mechanics, including more than one field mechanic per base. Mechanics must hold
an Air Frame and Power Plant license and have had more than one year of experience
in helicopter maintenance prior to joining the Company. Many Air Evac Lifeteam
mechanics have 20-plus years experience in Bell 206 repair/maintenance, and many
have military experience as well. The Company’s mechanics undergo thorough maintenance
training specific to maintaining its fleet of Bell 206 LongRanger aircraft.
Field maintenance is provided to bases on a 24/7 schedule by dedicated field maintenance
technicians. Aircraft inspection intervals are performed on a 25-flight-hour basis.
Having maintenance facilities in the field minimizes the amount of time an aircraft must
spend out of service for either routine maintenance or specific mechanical problems. Each
air ambulance base is assigned a mechanic who is responsible for daily aircraft inspections
and routine maintenance and repairs. In addition to its significant investment in professional
staff, Air Evac Lifeteam has also made an investment of over $1 million in a
state-of-the-art software system and supporting infrastructure to serve as the backbone
of its maintenance program and field operations, ensuring compliance with all FAA
regulations and safe aviation operations.
As a result of its single aircraft platform and significant investment in
maintenance personnel, training and software infrastructure, Air Evac Lifeteam’s
maintenance program enjoys a reputation for safe aviation operations, as evidenced by
its track record over 23 years and over 135,000 patient flights without an accident related to its maintenance program, and sustained average aircraft availability of over 98%.
