Our Aviation Experts
Pilots
Air Evac Lifeteam’s instrument-rated pilots are skilled aviators who become proficient
air medical pilots by training under its proprietary and Federal Aviation Authority-approved
program. Each certified pilot meets FAA standards and has flown, on average, more than 5,700 hours.
Only pilots who meet or exceed their respective state’s requirements are considered by Air Evac
Lifeteam. Before a pilot can fly for Air Evac Lifeteam, the candidate must demonstrate instrument
proficiency in a dedicated flight training simulator. Air Evac Lifeteam is among the few air medical
companies with this stringent requirement.
Pilots must also achieve standards established in Air Evac Lifeteam’s proprietary, FAA-approved
training program. The 14-day course delivers operational and procedural instruction, as well as
aircraft and mission-specific training in the Bell-206 LongRanger helicopter.
As part of their continuous improvement program, all pilots are required to complete recurrent,
week-long training on an annual basis. Mission-specific training includes flying at night and
landing on unimproved rural terrain, such as pastures and fields. Base assignment requires rigorous
flight orientation training to become and authority on local terrain, hospitals and landmarks.
Mechanics
Air Evac Lifeteam’s award-winning maintenance program is driven by a team of more than 74
dedicated mechanics employing more than one field mechanic per base. Mechanics must hold an Air
Frame and Power Plant license, and have had more than one year’s experience in helicopter maintenance
prior to joining Air Evac Lifeteam. All Air Evac Lifeteam mechanics undergo thorough maintenance
training specific to maintaining its fleet of Bell 206 LongRanger aircraft.
Additionally, the company’s 50,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art
aircraft refurbishment facility employs more than 60 aviation professionals, specialized in mechanics, avionics, sheet metal
fabricating and aircraft painting, unique in the air medical industry.
Corporate Infrastructure
Each of Air Evac Lifeteam’s bases is supported by a substantial corporate infrastructure
to ensure mission accomplishment. The company’s significant investment in its operations and
bases is evidenced by the fact that Air Evac Lifeteam maintains a ratio of at least 6 support
staff for each base.
